DMAIC is effective, systematic, data-based methodology focused on problem solving. This is the abbreviation used to refer to the procedure used during Six Sigma a Lean Six Sigma projects: Define (define), Measure (measure), Analyze (analyze), Improve (to improve), Control (drive). These 5 phases of the cycle help to achieve this process optimization.

DMAIC leads the teams step by step through the phases and using the collected data in each step to find a solution that leads to permanent removal of the cause of the problem. If a new process is needed due to a very disturbed process, methodology is used DFSS.
