We translated into the Czech language and published the book Pull Production for the Shopfloor written by the American publishing house Productivity Press.
This publication deals with pull production which aims to remove waste from manufacturing processes, mainly resulting from overproduction and excessive inventories. Methods and aims are neatly connected to the Toyota Production System.
The Pull Production for the Shopfloor is divided into six chapters.
Chapter 1: Choosing Pull Production
Chapter 1 provides a context for pull production and defines it.
Next, it discusses some of the challenges of production and determines the
prerequisites for implementing pull production. Finally, it lists the benefits
of pull production to the company and individual employee.
Chapter 2: Understanding and Preparing for Pull Production
Chapter 2 describes the elements of production management and how
they are addressed when shifiting to pull production. The problem of stock and
overproduction, push versus pull systems, flow production and levelling are all
discussed. The chapetr ends with a brief description of where in the factory you
should begin the pull implementation and gives the order in which to
progress.
Chapter 3: Implementing Pull Production
Chapter 3 highlights the how-to of shifting to a pull system. it
describes the improvement infrastructure needed and presents five key steps to
implementing pull production. Level production, line balancing, and quality
systems are also discussed.
Chapter 4: Managing Pull Production
Chapter 4 shows how to use the kanban system to manage pull. Six
rules of pull production with kanban are given. The functions and types of
kanban and how the kanban systemk works are explained. An analysis of pull
production is presented, and one stage versus two stage systems, supermarkets,
water beetles and milk runs are described.
Chapter 5: Extending Pull Production
Chapter 5 discusses the final phase of pull, in which pull production
supports one-piece flow. It reviews the conditions and steps for achieving
production flow. How to extend pull production to your company´s network of
suppliers and subcontractors is also discussed.
Chapter 6: Reflections and Conclusions
Chapter 6 presents reflections on and conclusions to this book. It
includes a summary of the steps for pull implementation. It also describes
opportunities for further learning about techniques related to pull
production.
