Nowadays, process management becomes a core of activities in all types of companies. Lean and Six Sigma methodology appears to be one of the most effective approaches to process management. It combines two approaches to process management- Lean and Six Sigma.
Lean, or implementation of lean production elements, is inherently connected to a successful Toyota Production System founded in the 1940´s in the Japonese company Toyota. Lean stands for rapidity, simplicity, clarity, creation of products and services without excessive activities and supplies, waste reduction, process balancing and linking processes to a customer.
Six Sigma is a more recent approach to process management. For the first time, it was applied in the American company Motorola in 1987. In the early 1990´s Motorola was followed by other important American companies – e.g. Allied Signal (today´s Honeywell) or General Electric whose managing director Jack Welsch made Six Sigma very popular. During 3 years of Six Sigma implementation General Electric saved more than USD 0.75 billion in costs.
Lean and Six Sigma combines two most important improvement trends of these days: work improvement through Six Sigma and its acceleration with the help of Lean principles.

1. Six Sigma improves the process quality by decreasing variability. 2. Lean accelerates processes and decreases the invested capital by removing waste.
